Splendid medieval walled city
Cittadella was founded in 1220, when the Municipality of Padua decided to create a new fortified settlement in the heart of the Venetian plain to protect the borders of its territory.
Today, Cittadella is the only walled city in Europe to preserve a medieval parapet walkway almost 2 km long and entirely accessible.
The walls can be visited with a panoramic walk 15 meters high: a unique experience, a real journey into history. Along the way, the view stretches on one side over the extraordinary medieval town layout, and on the other across the plain to the Euganean and Berici Hills.
Along the walls you will also find the Archaeological Museum, the Siege Museum, and the panoramic terrace of the Torre di Malta.
The tour then continues into the historic center, among its most important monuments: Piazza Pierobon with the majestic Cathedral dedicated to Saints Prosdocimus and Donatus, the Palazzo della Loggia, the Teatro Sociale, the Town Hall, and the 13th-century Church of Santa Maria del Torresino.
On request, it is also possible to visit the new Cathedral Museum, recently inaugurated.
